To mark the occasion of my 400th post and 4 years of blogging, I wanted to write this post to share the 4 lessons I’ve learned from blogging for this long.
—
Also, you guys are free to comment here your blog links or one post that you’d like everyone to read. Let’s make this a big blog party.
A short introduction to your blog for the unacquainted and a post to welcome your new readers would be helpful.
—
Consistency, the elusive elixir of writers. We all know if we are consistent we will reap its benefits, but the inner resistance battles our quest for consistency and we lose.
4 years ago I beat resistance and started a blog. In my mind it was simple. To become a better writer I have to write more. So I hope my learnings will inspire you to open that blog you’ve been meaning to open or publish that poem that has been accumulating dust.
𝟏. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬
The most important lesson I learned was understanding topics, words, ideas and the style that came naturally to me. As you write for a long period of time, a pattern emerges in your writing. As you recognise it, you will also be able to avoid it to grow to be a better writer or use it to your liking. You will also likely find your voice.
𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲

2017 – 116 posts, 28k views
2018 – 105 posts, 32k views
2019 – 61 posts, 12k views
2020 – 102 posts, 22k views
* The drop in posts in 2019 lowered my growth in 2020. If I would have stayed consistent, it’s quite possible, the blog would have been rewarded with more visitors. I am hoping my consistency in 2020, will help me reap its benefits in 2021.
𝟑. 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞
* One overall pattern I have seen in blogging is what I call the new year resolution effect. Like gym memberships boost at the beginning of every year, a lot of blogs are created with that beginner drive. But the excitement tapers off soon and the blog is abandoned.
* The consequence on the creator is that they have to build new following given the old following (usually creators) are no longer on the website.
𝟒. 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲
* We cannot pretend to live in a bubble and expect people to come to us. If we drop genuine comments on our peer’s blog posts they will definitely appreciate it and check our posts.
* The community has some lovely people who will give constructive feedback so it will mean a lot to start reading other blogs and encourage their writing. We’re all in this together!
I’ll also leave my Instagram link here if anyone has any questions about blogging in general or if you want to talk about life or just joke around with me. You’re most welcome. I want the conversation to be a two-way street.
I’ll start posting a blog post of mine that is my recent favourite to start things off : [396] Meeting In The Shadows
Thank you for being a part of this community!
Love,
Rahul Gaur
Engagement has helped me a lot in growing my blog too. Great points here. Happy 400th post! Wishing you many more to come.
Thank you Stuart!
You are an inspiration 🤍
Thanks for always reading 🙂
I love this post Rahul.
You shared great tips. July will be my 1 year of blogging mark. My blog is chieaynne.com and this post ( ) I think, is the best place for my new readers to start. My blog is mostly just journals of me trying to figure life out while struggling with depression and dreaming of success.
Happy 400th post!
Thank you. I think you forgot to share the link of your post.
Thank you for sharing You are being a great encouragement! You are right perseverance is the key!
Thank you. I’m glad I could be of help!
Thanks for the party invite! And for you blog tips!!
I am both trying to stay in the bubble for consistency and burst it for connection.
I don’t quite have a handle on what it all means yet… That is website, blog, consistency, connecting, community.
Just the writing alone is a BIG task.
https://writingforexpression.com/
Thank you. You’ll get there with practice!
I never realized how much I enjoy the comments on my blog. And yes that had me to seek those blog out specifically and go through them. Super cool!
That’s a good practice to have!
Yes I like comments too!
Congratulations on your personal achievement, and it is contagious pride and joy you are sharing. Thank you. 🙂
And, thank you for the personal story of blogging and the stats you included. I wrote and published before (book) but have only started blog in October… writing is the denominator….so I see your story here as a possible guideline and a hold-on when the spirit/ inspiration is low…have a lovely day!
I’m glad I could be of help to you!
I also believe that being Consistent is the key to have a successful blog, that’s why I have this weekly agenda of postings, it helps me a lot, even to prepare it in advance 🙂 cheers from Portugal Rahul, all the best 🙂 PedroL

I have started blogging and gone through WordPress’ blogging fundamentals course and the . 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐞𝐲 part of your article is just what I learnt in the course which has really helped.

This love has led me to create this blog where you will find curated articles on a range of topics from self-improvement to relationships and technology to help you enhance and enjoy your life.

After reading the first post of your blog. I was thinking that you are a middle aged man who has already seen the world. But, I am happy that your Instagram proved me wrong, as what I saw there is just a young man who can teach even me (I am 50) a thing or two especially about blogging.
I wish your blog to grow beyond even what you want for it right now. May Allah Almighty help you achieve that and bless you with Peace and all the good things you wish for.
Here is a link to my blog: https://towardsabettterlife.wordpress.com/2021/02/14/take-care-not-to-hurt-others-when-you-stop-caring-about-what-others-think-of-you/

Have a good day.
So sweet. Thank you! Checking out your blog asap 🙂
You are welcome Rahul. Have a good day.
All Excellent points.
Thanks man!
You bet.
Thank you, {{{Rahul}}}, for sharing these tips with us. I can’t agree more: consistency, determination, meaningful exchanges with other bloggers, those are keys to finding growth and enjoyment in the blogging world. I invite your readers to check out my blog. I’ve been at it for 8 years. Consistency came about 2 years ago. http://www.janbeek.blog. It’s subtitle for 7 of those 8 years was “Loving One Another” and 2020’s focus was “Walk the Talk”… that became a real challenge with the pandemic! My subtitle changed this year to reveal more of what I am about: “Sharing love, joy, peace, faith and unity.” The word for 2021 is “Embrace” – and it is not at all hard to find something each day that is worth embracing. I hope you visit and find it inspirational! Thank you, Rahul, for the invitation to invite your readers. I appreciate you! <3
Thank you for sharing your blog. Hope everyone here checks out your superb blog!
Thank you, Rahul. I appreciate your affirmation. <3

Thank you Vincent!
This is my second attempt at having a blog, and consistency is something I’m still trying to figure out. I’m a repeat offender of falling for the New Year’s Resolution effect, but I found that talking with other bloggers and interacting with the community makes me want to keep up with it. My blog is https://thepassivebookworm.wordpress.com/ for anyone interested in checking out. Congratulations on you 400th post! 🙂
Thank you! Hope you find the will to continue for longer this time 🙂
You’re so right! Engagement is so key plus consistency (and might I add, cater to your known audience). I’ve had my blog for over 5 years and only within the last 3 months seen progress, traffic and interest (bc of all the things I did above). Great post! Just linking a popular post from my blog entitled “I’m An Asshole” … https://bosssybabe.wordpress.com/2021/01/13/1814/ thanks for the opportunity!! 🙂
Thank you for sharing!

And well my blog is about conversations and thoughts I come by in my rendezvous. Some of them turn out to be entertaining and interesting (to many) others could be flat (to some) I get the reactions stories create in people. But I just wrote it, if not all here at kuoobiediaries.

Thank you really helpful – I put down my blog for a few years and picked it up and already this year I have doubled interactions by getting involved with others. It has also helped inspire and lifted my spirits to see the weight of brilliant thinkers in the blogosphere! I write poetry mainly to reflect ,share experiences and rationalise this mad life we are all living! Here is a link to my favourite poem, you are most welcome to have a wander around my blog I hope you find a rhyme that lifts you. https://lauraelizahaynes.wordpress.com/2015/09/20/last-morning-of-summer/

Thank you Lukshita. So kind of you to say that 🙂
thanks for the advice- I’m not a very consistent blogger and, well, poetry blogs aren’t really high intensity I suppose. Thanks for like on oldbonesnewsnow as well, I appreciate it!

hey Rahul, Am just getting acquainted with your blog and writing and this is a wonderful post. I must say you are very consistent. I remember how I started by did not end up being consistent. keep up the good work!
Thank you. Means a lot 💫
Hi Rahul! Your point about checking out each other’s blogs is a good one. You liked a post in my very new blog, and I had to come check yours out, and I’m loving it so far. It works! 🙂
Mine is Rachel-Writes.blog if anyone is interested. I’m checking out some of the ones listed above!
interesting post, I’m not big on social media, so I don’t do a lot of promoting for my blog past sending it to friends. (I also only started a few months ago, so it’s still early day), but I have definitely noticed a lot of my early followers are other bloggers. It’s lead me to your blog now, so it’s definitely working :D. 400 posts is very impressive, I hope to reach that one day as well!
Thanks for the post. Really insightful!
Hello Rahul,
Wow, 400 posts! Congratulations! I’m a little late to this party but wanted to thank you for your tips on blogging. I started my blog as a way to nudge my coming-of-age book out into the world but find I’m enjoying the way blog posts and comments are holding all of us together in the blogosphere. A recent post of mine is Finding Our Way Back. Thanks for the invitation to include a link.

Great tips on the lessons you’ve learned over the past four years. 🎉 I especially appreciate the importance of engaging with other writers. We don’t write in a bubble but engage with a community. https://thesoulwhispersblog.com/2021/03/27/success/
