Any worthwhile fiction
should be a combination
of two things
a reflection of the reality
and a depiction of how it should be
𝘙𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺
Voices raised
under the influence
leads to other voices
being silenced
When your power
makes the other person
question their everyday
little habits like the way
they laugh, the way they smile
the way they sit, the way they walk
You need to realise that this
power does not come from the bottle
you drink to silence society’s sins you’ve come from
but it comes from the other person’s silence you’ve come to
When the father figure inherits
the destruction of a patriarchal nation
they don’t realise that we’re merely kids
in search of better days
So we try to become the better days

All my life has been a meditation
to unlearn the inner rhythm
of you that I escape to forget
A habit I didn’t take to
is to pick up the bottle
when a storm is
raging inside
while I had just survived the one
raging outside
Instead of giving it an outlet
and silencing the powerless
I treat my storm with silence
and a glass of water
to calm my nerves
even if it leads to an implosion
even if it leads to the blocking of memories
All not to become
the melting pot of my traumas
All not to
externalise the habit
I had internalised to silently hate
All for the hope of better days that I live now
NaPoWriMo Day15: It asks you to think about a small habit you picked up from one of your parents, and then to write a piece that explores an early memory of your parent engaged in that habit, before shifting into writing about yourself engaging in the same habit.

‘All not to
externalise the habit
I had internalised to silently hate’
I know them passive aggresive genes.
A great exploration.
Thanks
Thank you so much Mark!
