You left your memories
To echo in this empty room
Each corner of which hides the
fragrance of your lilac breath
The walls capture your heels
when I held you by the waist
It feels as if this is a riverbed
of my insecurities
This empty room
It’s a result of avoidance
of my pain
It’s the culmination
of all that I dreaded
It’s the singular symbol
of my inability to love
I run around this empty space
No longer running away from you
But running away from what you meant
and how difficult it will be
to give meaning to this room again
To make this pain a memory
that only echoes in this room
and not in me
What a pain you have hidden inside you!! Sometimes silence hurts!!
Beautiful poem of lost of love

Haunting
Thank you R.J. Glad you liked it ❤️
Really touching. Your words run deep, and remind me of so many beautiful quotes and songs. ‘Lilac breath’ reminds me of ‘Lilac Wine’ by Jeff Buckley, which is one of my all time favourite songs. Your last stanza also makes me think of a quote, which says that ‘[Life is] a series of rooms and who we get stuck in those rooms with adds up to what our lives are.’
I love the picture that you’ve chosen, and how well this poem flows. xx
That’s some neat recall. Will check out the song. Thank you for your comment ❤️
Reblogged this on The Reluctant Poet and commented:
Come see if you have the same kind of memories echoing in empty rooms!
Thank you for the reblog! Helps a lot ❤️
This poem is my brother speaking; he left us by his own choice in 2013. I understand him all the better for reading it.
