I know, I aloneβ£
the feelings of a frozen heartβ£
Disbelief and shut eyesβ£
No solace in the inner thoughtβ£

Only I, only Iβ£
Ego is the real causeβ£
Because the world is full of sufferingβ£
and I get to write my demons out. Privilege.
NaPoWriMo Day 23: Today, Iβd like to challenge you to write a poem that responds, in some way, to another. This could be as simple as using a line or image from another poem as a jumping-off point, or it could be a more formal poetic response to the argument or ideas raised in another poem.
I chose Fernando Pessoa’s ‘I Know, I Alone’, which is quite an effortless exploration of the feelings of an individual. I recognise the privilege writers have to articulate our inner feelings as poetry, while there is suffering all around. So, my poem is a response to Pessoa as I see recognising this privilege as the first step towards doing something about the world around us, which in turn dictates our feelings.

What a surprise ending. LOL. I would never have thought of “Privilege”… Yes, it is.

This seems to me as counting your blessings when you see none…Love it…Kenyanito biko….umm…not only does thine self ‘realize’ but there are those that as well can ‘see’ the suffering….not just limited behind our shut eyes (not for everyone anyway)…imho

If it weren’t for my words to purge….I’d be swimming in a sewer of great disconcert….& eyeing the dirt as a better place to be inert (smirk)…I jest but always a truth behind the smile of ill & uncouth…’eh? Thank you for replying & I have been enjoying your art …thank you for the share!
