The birth of the world โฃ
and its dying echoโฃ
can be heard in a shellโฃ
Like that, I try to find โฃ
the beginning of our endโฃ
in the silence you left behind
โฃ
I lied when I told youโฃ
the first time we talkedโฃ
was the first time we metโฃ
when I saw you every day โฃ
sipping your morning cup โฃ
through the cafe window that cameโฃ
on my way to workโฃ
โฃ
I dreamt daily but evenโฃ
dreams couldnโt hold โฃ
the power to capture youโฃ
And my memory couldn’t
remember your faceโฃ
You were unreal like dreams
โฃ
Whenever I walked past the cafeโฃ
my head turned to remember you
till it recognised that it โฃ
lacked the power to hold itโฃ
But one day when you werenโt there โฃ
The window was devoid of even forgetting
โฃ
The history of our love beganโฃ
the day I couldnโt see youโฃ
It was the first day we met โฃ
Does it even matter though?โฃ
To look back at the dying โฃ
beating of our heartโฃ
โฃ
What use are the memoriesโฃ
of trying to remember youโฃ
when I need to forget you nowโฃ
My habit of turning my head when Iโฃ
pass the coffee shop window still enduresโฃ
only to find you not sitting thereโฃ
only to end up hearing the echo of our end
NaPoWriMo Day 29: And now, for our prompt (optional, as always). This one is called โin the window.โ Imagine a window looking into a place or onto a particular scene. It could be your childhood neighborโs workshop, or a window looking into an alien spaceship. Maybe a window looking into a witchโs gingerbread cottage, or Lord Nelsonโs cabin aboard the H.M.S. Victory. What do you see? Whatโs going on?
A bit long but I hope it’s worth reading since it’s narrated in the form of a story.
Painting by Edward Hopper.
