[558] the caterpillar will (won’t) become a butterfly

My mistakes, puddles
reflect with restless worries
I bend to touch them
feeling unborn tomorrows
of all that I wasn’t today

Wrote a tanka today to get into the rhythm of saying more with less. It’s a japanese short form poetry system with 5-7-5-7-7 syllable scheme. Give it a try!

  1. This is a truly beautiful and resonant piece of writing. The way you weave together the concrete image of a puddle with the abstract weight of regret and potential is masterful.

The final two lines are particularly powerful, transforming a moment of quiet self-critique into a poignant and hopeful reach towards the future. It’s a wonderful, thought-provoking haiku. Thank you for sharing it.
