bit by bit
my skin wears off
To see your true colours
has been harrowing for my bones
they demand a sight coupled with denial
My body resists its shedding
as your words slice it again & again
bit by bit
melting away like the resolve
i had for you
when you met me besides the pond
holding out your hand for saving
I wish I knew saving meant
forgetting what I am
bit by bit
now that you’re gone
and it feels like infinity
Time feels like an extension
of the memories we had, fading
all you are to me now is a mist
but now I’m the one beneath the pond
holding out my hand for saving
will someone be ready to forget who they are
bit by bit?

This was seriously brilliant. Just had a conversation with a friend about how in any sort of relationship there is always some sort of denial of self, because all relationships require some sort of compromise. You end up changing bit by bit over time, sometimes to discover what you’re not, but then with all the added layers or forms, you then might need a little help from someone else, even just a friend to chisel them all off and resynchronize with your own essence you had forgotten.

Brilliant – to be an US, you must give up bits of the You. Great writing, bit deep and the mark left was hard!
